Success Lessons from X-factor show

Here is an article I recently submitted on EzineArticles:

I watched X-Factor on television last night and had one of those a-ha moments. It is one of those insights that we get that makes sense when something clicks in our mind. I would like to share the success lessons I learned in this article.

X-factor is a reality television show where contestants audition for a place to perform live on stage. Each week, they get an opportunity to shine and wow the audience. Viewers vote, and the following day, an elimination episode happens. The performer getting eliminated gets to grace the stage for a final performance, and the process repeats itself the following week.

There are four judges to provide constructive criticism after each performance. The judges are also experienced in the performance industry, and provide coaching and help the performers during the preparation week before the next big show.

It is a harsh competition. The performers have a week to polish their act, and whatever progress they have the previous week does not count for the subsequent show. Consistence does matter as a slip up just once may result in failure. They have to perform in front of critical judges as well as an audience, who if are not satisfied, can get you out of the race.

If you thought public speaking was difficult, this is a whole new level. Its not just singing in tune, they have to act and perform all to time. And they ideally should get it all right when the moment arrives.

What was the a-ha moment? It was a culmination of the judges comments on that episode. The constructive advice they provided were not just applicable to the individuals they talked to, they were relevant to us all.

One of the judges commented that while a performer could have done better that night, their background story might still see them through the competition. There was a newspaper article on her the previous day detailing her kind attitude and going on the show to make a difference, with the prize money going for a worthy unselfish cause.

Take home message: build a reputation and when there is good press giving praise to your efforts, a slip up may not be too disastrous. Work on portraying a self image that will sell for you.

You will notice that all the performers are talented. Sure, the audience and judges criticize that they do not sound as good, they did not nail it and so on. But it is all relative. While they may not be as good as their counterparts, they would trump us easily if we took them head on in a singing competition.

The lesson here is that however talented we are in any particular field, its the 'extra factor' that separates out those who are good and those who go on to achieve great things. This point of difference is vital, and is obvious when competing against those of equal capabilities. We need to develop this 'extra factor' to be successful.

Another important lesson was how easily it was to spot those who are savouring the moment and enjoying themselves when their time to shine arrives. Subconsciously, we get an immense feeling of support for that individual, giving it their all to show their talent. Ultimately, the usually end up the winner of such reality television shows. This is also the case in real life.

While X-factor is a reality TV show, these lessons are applicable to us all. We learn and we grow. Apply these lessons to your life to achieve greatness.

Valuable Insights From a Wealth Seminar

As you know, I attended a Wealth Seminar recently, and got quite a lot out of it. I wrote out what I learnt on EzineArticles, and want to share it here. Hopefully those of you who attended can relate to what I experienced.

The article can be accessed here:

Valuable Insights From a Wealth Seminar

I recently attended a wealth seminar. It was located further out from where I live. I initially was not going to attend but a last minute flight for work meant I was supposed to have a transit in that particular town. I changed my flight to fit it in. I belonged to the group organising the seminar so attendance was no additional cost. Yet a potential benefit lay ahead.

This opportunity revealed itself further when I received an email after registering. They needed extra help, and were keen to provide me a credit for further educational products in return. That was an instant bonus, one which I will prize highly. You see, I believe that to grow, we need to invest in ourself. If we increase in value, so will our net worth. To quote a well known advertisement; net value received - priceless!

So I did spend my weekend, 'working' and learning at the same time. The value of these seminars vary. But I do know one thing: sometimes all you need is one idea which clicks and resonates with you, and if you carry out this idea to fruition, there will be significant improvement and success in your life. I received several ideas and learnt lots. I will share the big insights I received in this article.

I believe that the value of these seminars not only lies in the educational content provided by the speakers and organisers. One under-utilised resource is the network you manage to immerse yourself in. The people who attended such events usually strive for one thing: how to improve their current situation, especially financially.

It takes great courage to put this out there; and to hold their heads up high and say 'I strive for a better tomorrow'. It takes even more to push on and be consistent with this. It will be a challenge to maintain this positive mindset outside the ambiance of such seminars.

Surround yourself with successful people, and no surprise, you get what people around you get. If you accept negativity, this will be reflected back on you and your surrounding circumstances. The people around you long term will determine how far you get. So if you manage to find people who can take you far, share the journey with them and maintain close contact.

An interview I heard recently told of an internet marketer who attended a particular summit. As chance would have it, he stopped to chat (without realising initially) to a multimillionaire on his way in. He ended up missing more than half of the seminar, but he learnt a lot from someone who had done it before and ended up making his own fortune.

He said 'Had I not taken this chance, I would not have reached where I am today'. Essentially, this meeting up with people and sharing of ideas is of significant value sometimes above and beyond the planned programme. While there is a set programme, we do have control and decide what we want to achieve in this event. Then in that time frame, we set out to achieve it.

In this seminar, I 'volunteered' my time and energy but got much more in return instead. I attended a seminar for free, as well as received a further investment in my net value. I also managed to meet up with the important people in the organisation as part of this 'volunteering' process. How the following quote rings true: 'Give more of what you expect to receive'.

I also had the value of networking reinforced after the seminar. I met lots of amazing people in the after-event. We shared ideas and exchanged contact details. And we will encourage and motivate each other to keep going even when it gets tough. Accountability is the key to persistent action.

Still buzzing from the event, I felt like I needed to share these thoughts. I hope you have found it valuable as well.

To your success.

I achieved Platinum Level at EzineArticles

I am really excited today. I received an email from EzineArticles saying they have upgraded me to a Platinum Level Author. I have submitted a few articles to them as a Basic member, but each one has to be reviewed by an editor before being approved.

Admittedly, I have had one turned down as it was not of sufficient quality, but one out of the many I submitted is quite good. Being awarded a higher level gives me a moral boost to improve the work I am doing.

Currently, I am working on a big project - that is to develop a low cost (free) resource for new internet marketers. I have been busy drafting this project for a week now. I am learning as I go along, but the experience I get is amazing. I have already hit a few bumps today, but I have time to iron them out. I will update you on my progress with this project soon, so stay tuned.

As the week is drawing to a close, I wish everyone a good weekend. :)

See you next week.

Shane.

Show your talents to the world.

I believe that each day, we are given an opportunity to display our talents. Those times may come unexpectedly but when we shine during those moments, we are given a boost towards greater heights.

Sometimes we must choose these opportunities. We step up at difficult times and challenging moments. It is at these moments when our ability shows.

Step up each day. Show your talents to the world.

Have a good day.

Keeping in touch with like minded people

To those I met last weekend:

I was lovely meeting you all. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves as well.
I believe that keeping in touch with like minded people is valuable.
Motivation from others when things become challenging pushes us to keep going.

I started this blog to put in writing some of my goals and aspirations and explain the processes I am going through.
I believe personal reflection and putting down commitments in writing will hold us accountable, allowing our goals to be achieved more effectively.

You are welcome to make this space your own too.
Keep in touch!

Shane.
